(If you have problems falling into Lava, I suggest placing some more torches around the danger areas so enemies don't spawn. Or just wall 'em off with whatever materials you have at the moment. Also, hold shift so your character crouches down and doesn't fall off ledges. Keep in mind that you'll be "floating" off the side of the block, and releasing will cause you to fall. If you do fall in, it doesn't hurt to use a bucket of water on yourself, water of any kind, really.)
